Proclamations and executive orders, 1845-1992.

This series consists of proclamations and executive orders issued by the governors of Florida and filed with the Secretary of State according to Chapter 14.022 F.S. The proclamations cover the period 1845 through 1992; the executive orders cover the period 1845 through 1976. The series contains bound volumes, which have proclamations and executive orders filed together, and loose paper records, which consist only of proclamations. The executive orders are continued in loose paper form from 1977 in Series 1356. The records document the announcement of special events, special sessions of the legislature, special elections, death warrants, pardons, appointments and removals from office, and impeachments. The first volume, dated 1845-1865, in the collection also includes various election results and canvasses.

The County Guards were created in 1917 (Ch. 7292, Laws) by the Florida Legislature to replace the National Guard of Florida which had been activated for European service as part of the American Expeditionary Force of World War I.
